What 5 things change the price of a porta potty rental?
Five things set the price of a porta potty rental: your location, the unit type, the dates and length, how often it gets cleaned, and how many units you order. Location sets the delivery fee. Unit type and length set the rate. Service and quantity add or subtract from there.
1. Location and ZIP code
Delivery and pickup is $49 in the core zone around Erie. Farther out in Erie County the round trip runs $69 to $99. Crawford and Warren counties start at $99.
2. Unit type
A standard unit is the lowest price. Flushing, accessible and VIP units cost more because they carry water tanks, more parts and more cleaning time. A restroom trailer is a package price that includes setup.
3. Dates and rental length
Events are one flat price from drop-off to pickup, up to 4 days. Short jobs up to 7 days use the week rate. Anything longer bills in 28-day cycles.
4. Cleaning schedule
Monthly units include one cleaning a week. Big crews can add a second weekly visit. Event units can add a $45 cleaning visit per unit.
5. Quantity
Every order pays one delivery fee, no matter how many units ride on the truck. Order 3 or more portable units together and the units drop 10%.
What would my porta potty rental total come to?
A porta potty rental total is easiest to judge from real examples. Below are four common Erie orders, priced at our starting rates in the core zone with the 6% sales tax worked out. Your quote follows the same lines. Only the unit count, the ZIP and the dates change.
Backyard party for 80 guests, 4 hours, food served
Our sizing method gives 2 standard units for 80 guests over 4 hours or less. Food means 1 handwashing station. That makes 3 units, so the 10% multi-unit discount applies.
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| 2 standard units x $165 | $330.00 |
| 1 handwashing station x $115 | $115.00 |
| 10% off 3 units ($445.00) | -$44.50 |
| Delivery and pickup, core zone | $49.00 |
| Subtotal | $449.50 |
| 6% PA sales tax | $26.97 |
| Total | $476.47 |
Bathroom remodel that runs 3 months
Three calendar months is about 90 days. Three 28-day cycles only cover 84 days, so a 90-day job runs into a fourth cycle. If the remodel wraps up by day 84, you pay for three.
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Cycle 1: standard unit $185 + delivery and pickup $49 | $234.00 |
| Cycle 1 tax (6%) | $14.04 |
| Cycle 1 total | $248.04 |
| Cycles 2, 3 and 4: $185 + $11.10 tax each | $196.10 each |
| Total for 4 cycles (112 days) | $836.34 |
| Total if done within 3 cycles (84 days) | $640.24 |
Weekly pump-out, cleaning and restock is included in every cycle. See short-term rentals for jobs under a week.
Construction site with 20 workers
OSHA's legal minimum for 20 workers is 1 toilet. On a 40-hour week we recommend 1 unit per 10 workers, so 2 standard units, plus a handwashing station. That is 3 units, so the multi-unit discount applies.
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| 2 standard units x $185 per 28 days | $370.00 |
| 1 handwashing station x $145 per 28 days | $145.00 |
| 10% off 3 units ($515.00) | -$51.50 |
| Delivery and pickup, core zone | $49.00 |
| Subtotal | $512.50 |
| 6% PA sales tax | $30.75 |
| First 28 days | $543.25 |
| Each later 28 days ($463.50 + $27.81 tax) | $491.31 |

Wedding for 150 guests, 6 hours, with a bar
The count is 3 units for 150 guests, plus 2 for running past 4 hours, plus 2 for the bar. That is 7 toilets, one of them wheelchair-accessible. Food means 1 handwashing station per 2 units, rounded up, so 4 stations.
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| 6 standard units x $165 | $990.00 |
| 1 wheelchair-accessible unit x $225 | $225.00 |
| 4 handwashing stations x $115 | $460.00 |
| 10% off 11 units ($1,675.00) | -$167.50 |
| Delivery and pickup, core zone | $49.00 |
| Subtotal | $1,556.50 |
| 6% PA sales tax | $93.39 |
| Total | $1,649.89 |
Many couples swap most of those units for a 2-room restroom trailer. One trailer ($1,295, delivery and setup included) plus 2 standard units, 1 accessible unit and 2 handwashing stations comes to $1,295 + $706.50 (the $785.00 of portable units less 10%) + $49 delivery = $2,050.50. With $123.03 in sales tax, the total is $2,173.53. See wedding restroom options for photos of both setups.
All four examples use starting prices in the Erie core zone. Delivery farther out, holiday dates or extra cleanings change the total, and your quote shows each line before you pay.
How does the 28-day cycle affect my bill?
The 28-day billing cycle starts on the day the porta potty is delivered, not on the first of the month. Each cycle is exactly 4 weeks with 4 weekly cleanings. The card on file is charged at the start of each cycle until you call for pickup. Thirteen cycles cover 364 days.
A calendar month and a 28-day cycle drift apart. A unit dropped on March 3 starts its second cycle on March 31, not April 3.
Pickup is not automatic on monthly units. Call or text 1 business day before you want the unit gone. Billing stops with the cycle in which you ask for pickup.
If your job runs a week or less, skip the cycle and use the 7-day rate, from $145 with one cleaning. A monthly unit only makes sense past the 7-day mark. Monthly rentals explains the weekly service in detail.
What fees will you never see on our quote?
A porta potty quote from Shawn Rental Works has no fuel surcharge, no credit card fee, no admin fee and no separate removal fee. Delivery and pickup are one line, charged once per order. The only things added to the unit price are delivery, any extra cleaning you asked for, and 6% sales tax.
Some quotes look low and then grow at the end. Ours is built the other way: every line is on the paper before you pay.
There is no extra charge when a weekend event unit sits from Friday to Monday. The extra days are how the route works, not a fee.
The only after-the-fact charge is damage beyond normal use, like fire, vandalism or graffiti. A free lock hasp helps prevent that. The full list is in our rental terms.
How do I read my porta potty quote?
Read a porta potty quote from the top down: each unit and its rental length, the quantity, any discount, delivery and pickup, extra cleanings, then 6% sales tax and the total. Check that the dates, the ZIP and the cleaning schedule match your job. Ask about any line you do not understand before paying.
Look for three things. First, is the rate an event rate, a 7-day rate or a 28-day rate? Second, is the price per unit or for the whole order? Our quotes show both.
Third, check the delivery line against your ZIP. If the job is in Millcreek but the quote says Crawford County, call us and we fix it.
How can I lower the cost of a porta potty rental?
The easiest ways to lower porta potty rental cost are to order everything at once, pick the right rental length, and match the unit to the crowd. One order means one delivery fee. Three or more units take 10% off. A short job on the 7-day rate costs less than a full 28-day cycle.
Pick standard plus a sink, or one deluxe
For a small party with food, 1 standard unit and 1 handwashing station cost $280 before tax. One deluxe flushing unit costs $295 and takes half the yard space. The pair is $15 cheaper and lets two people wash at once.
Take the Friday drop for a weekend party
A Friday drop and Monday pickup is the same flat event price. It also avoids a rush fee if you live outside the core zone and would otherwise need a same-day Saturday delivery.
Use the 7-day rate for short jobs
A roof tear-off or a septic repair often takes 3 to 6 days. The 7-day rate is $145 with one cleaning, against $185 for a 28-day cycle.
Call for pickup on time
Text us 1 business day before the job ends. A unit that sits a few extra days into a new cycle costs a full cycle.
Send your tax-exempt certificate
Churches, schools and nonprofits with a Pennsylvania exemption certificate pay no sales tax. Send it before the invoice goes out.

Porta potty price questions
These porta potty price questions cover the cheapest option, daily and hourly rates, deposits, payment and cancellation. Each answer starts with the short version. Prices are starting rates in the Erie core zone, before 6% PA sales tax. Call Shawn if your situation is not covered here.
What is the cheapest porta potty I can rent?
The cheapest option is a standard porta potty on the 7-day rate, from $145 with one cleaning. For a party, the standard event unit is from $165 for up to 4 days. Add $49 delivery and pickup in the core zone and 6% tax.
Is a one-day rental cheaper than a weekend?
There is no separate one-day price. An event rental is one flat rate from drop-off to pickup, up to 4 days, so a one-day party pays the same as a weekend. Most units arrive Friday and leave Monday.
Do you charge by the hour?
Rentals are never priced by the hour. A 3-hour brunch and a 2-day reunion pay the same event rate. The price covers delivery day to pickup day, not how long the unit gets used.
Do I have to pay a deposit?
Event rentals are paid in full at booking instead of a deposit. Monthly rentals charge the card on file at the start of each 28-day cycle. You are only billed later for damage beyond normal use, such as fire or vandalism.
How can I pay?
We take credit and debit cards. Business accounts can be invoiced net-15 after the first paid rental, and approved accounts can pay by check. There is no card fee.
What if I need to cancel?
Cancel free up to 24 hours before delivery. Same-day orders cancel free until the truck is dispatched. Restroom trailers cancel free up to 7 days before. After that, 50% of the trailer price is due. Rescheduling with 24 hours notice is free.
Why does a wheelchair-accessible unit cost more?
The accessible unit is about 7.5 by 7.5 feet, about four times the floor space of a standard unit. Fewer fit on a truck and each one takes longer to clean. The price difference is $60 for an event.
